Most of us visit Destin Florida primarily for the beaches and who can blame them? From the sugar white sand to the emerald green waters, Destin Florida has been nationally recognized as a top family beach vacation destination. But do you know about where the locals go to relax on the weekends? It’s something solely unique to Destin and something you must experience to believe.
If you aren’t familiar with Crab Island in Destin Florida, you are missing out on one of the most amazing and authentic Emerald Coast experiences around. Crab Island is a shallow sand bar located just north of the iconic Destin Bridge. If you happen to cross the Destin Bridge over the spring and summer, you’re sure to see a majestic view of boats anchored on the sandbar and people relaxing and playing in the waist-deep, emerald green waters.
Crab Island was actually an island before the ocean currents washed part of it away. Now it’s a floating playground that has become a nationally-recognized destination attraction. Watch this GMA feature with Emeril on Crab Island in Destin.
Crab Island is a summer tradition for locals and visitors alike as the ultimate way to celebrate fun in the sun and on the water but you can only get out there on a boat. It’s easy to have too much fun in the sun which makes the SunVenture the best way to get out to Crab Island.
Our Coast-guard licensed captains will take you out to Crab Island from our convenient new location at the Destin Harbor and drop anchor for 3 1/2 hours. We’ll drop the ladder and you can jump into the waist-deep waters. You’ll find a little bit of everything at Crab Island from floating bars and restaurants to people kayaking, snorkeling, dancing, paddle boarding or just relaxing on a float (we offer kayak and paddle board rentals as well as lunch options).

Memorial Day weekend in Destin Florida is the official kick off to the summer season and what better way to celebrate than on the water. The SunVenture’s new home on the Destin Harbor put this water lovers boat in the heart of all the action, providing a number of different water ad’ventures’.
The only way to truly celebrate Memorial Day in Destin is a Crab Island, situated just a few minutes boat ride from the Destin Harbor. While not technically an island any longer, this underwater sandbar can range between 2 – 10 feet deep when the tide goes out. With crystal clear water, this is the ultimate spot to anchor the boat and have some summer fun in the waist-deep waters. Our captains will charter you out there for a worry-free day in the sun as you mingle with the locals. The SunVenture also offers lunch options for this 6-hour Crab Island excursion as well as kayak and paddleboard rentals to enjoy on the water.
Some people say that the dolphins are the good will ambassadors for the Emerald Coast. While cruising the waterways on our narrated Eco-Dolphin cruises, you will have a really good chance to observe dolphins playing and feeding in their natural habitat. It is an exciting and memorable experience to share with your entire family during your beach vacation in Destin. Eco-dolphin cruises are available daily ranging in times from mid-morning to evening / sunset cruises.
Our eco-dolphin / sunset cruise gives you a front row seat for the best place in Destin to experience one of nature’s most breathtaking sunset views. As you cruise the Destin Harbor, you’ll watch the sun descend under the Destin bridge and the sparkling emerald green waters.
The new spring season is bringing exciting new changes for SunVenture Cruises. The sporty 45-foot, Guy-inspired Catamaran has relocated to the crown jewel of Destin – the Destin Harbor. Docked a half mile east of the Destin Bridge, SunVenture’s new home is Heron Harbor Boardwalk right in the epicenter of water sport fun.
It’s also easier than ever to book a cruise through the new online reservation system. Just select your date and time and enter your payment information through our secure system. You will receive a confirmation email with your boarding pass that you can print out or show from your phone when you check in at the SunVenture kiosk on the boardwalk.
So what ad’venture’ are you up for? Dolphin cruises are scheduled from mid-morning to evening sunset times. This 1 1/2 hour tour cruises through the Destin Harbor and Gulf of Mexico for the closest view of the dolphins you will experience.
Next month, we begin a fun Destin summer tradition. Our Coast Guard-licensed captains take the wheel on the daily Crab Island Cruises and let you enjoy a worry-free day on the water. We’re kicking up the fun a notch with stand-up paddle boards and kayaks that you can rent once we anchor in the waist-deep, emerald green waters. This 3 1/2 hour cruise also offers lunch options for $10/pp that include wraps, drinks and chips. Seriously the best and safest way to enjoy Crab Island!
Private cruise options are also available for up to 49 people for any occasion from casual brunches, private cruises to Crab Island and fun bachelor/bachelorette parties to wedding receptions. Catering menus and event planners available to make your day complete.
Summer 2013 is ‘unofficially’ over and we’re on the heels of another spectacular fall season. It truly is one of the best times of the year to visit for many reasons. Less humidity, lower rates, smaller crowds, less traffic, migrating butterflies….we could go on and on.
Our regular cruise schedule is dwindling down as well but Captain Rick is always looking for an excuse to get on the water. The SunVenture is available throughout the fall for any private cruises for up to 49 people. We can accommodate anything from catering to Crab Island excursions. Just ask and we can make it happen.
Many of our guests have found that the SunVenture makes for a fun, unique ‘venture’ for anything from corporate retreats, activities during business conferences, girls’ weekends and more.
If you are fortunate enough to visit Destin Florida in the fall, give us shout and we’ll help you cruise through a memorable fall ‘venture’ in Destin.
Last week, we talked about how you deserve to play as hard as you work. Hitting the water is one of the most popular ways to not only enjoy the Destin life, but a very relaxing way to spend time with family and friends. Relaxing, that is, for everyone who is NOT driving the boat.
You can rent the boat and the captain on the SunVenture. Sit back and relax while Captain Rick charters the waters, gives you an entertaining narrative of the Destin life and drops anchor at Crab Island. It’s a worry-free day on the water that everyone deserves. We’ll even bring food!
The SunVenture can host up to 49 people for any private charter to see the dolphins, sunset, Crab Island or anywhere else along the local waters.
Life is short….live it up worry free on the SunVenture!
